If a carpet smells and might be rotting, what product cleans right through the carpet and is safe to use?

I’m renting and can’t change the carpet, so I need more of a temporary fix. Would enzyme digesters work and do you recommend which I can get in the UK?

It seems a bit crazy, but would Milton fluid work, or how about Squirt-Eco?
