They are curently using sheeps fiber in NZ and England and as home insulation, I want to utilize this wonderful, healthy, extremely eco friendly product as a niche business but I need to know how to process it into the batting
I also need to know what I need to do to make this insulation meet California housing codes.

How does an average consumer buy products that are good for the environment?

Monday, May 19th, 2008
Medic asked:

Much like the Fat-Free era of the 90’s there are many products that are claiming to be better for the environment. Most of the time they are more expensive, but how does the average consumer really know that the products they are paying more for, are really better for the environment? From light bulbs, to cars, to paper there really isn’t a single major company that does not have some type of eco-friendly product on the shelf. Is there some sort of rating system (or something) for the average consumer, which will let the them know which companies have really gotten on board the environmental friendly production of goods, and which companies are just pretending?

Innovative Eco Products in Japan

Monday, May 19th, 2008
NTDTV asked:

ANCHOR:
Over in Japan, a recent Eco-messe exhibition presented some innovative eco-friendly products that you can use around the home. And they might save you some money, too. NTD’s Yukichi Negishi has more.

STORY:
One of the highlights from the exhibition is the Newspaper Brick Maker. This all-metal case uses old newspapers to make solid papier-mâché-like bricks that can be used as firewood. The device uses only water and recycled newspaper, and can make a cheap substitute to firewood. But some bloggers say they tend to smolder rather than burn if they aren’t made properly.

Teruhisa Hagiwara describes how it works.

[Teruhisa Hagiwara, T&T Co Ltd.]:
“Our Newspaper Brick Maker turns newspaper into a brick that can be used as fuel. You first soak newspaper in water to make pulp. Then put the pulp in the newspaper brick maker, compress it tightly, then take out the brick. It’ll be complete when the compressed brick is dried which takes about 7-10 days. Everybody can make it easily.”

Another highlight is the water saving toilet flapper. Older toilet flappers only close after all the water is flushed. But this flapper releases air bubbles and allows water to flow into the bowl faster. Then, when the air is released, the flapper closes immediately. The eco-flapper saves about five liters (1.3 gallons) of water a flush.

We asked K&S Creative’s Kiyoshi Tsujimoto if he uses the eco-flapper at home.

[Kiyoshi Tsujimoto, K&S Creative]:
“Of course, I use it at home. When I use it, I can hear the sound of saving water. When the flapper closes, it has a distinct sound, then I think, ‘hey, I saved water! This is ECO!’”

If you use these products, savings are sure to start “flowing” in!

If the gov. forced companies to become more eco-friendly, wouldn’t that hurt the economy?

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008
Bethany asked:

The major complaint by environmentalists is that businesses emit massive amounts of pollution through the elimination of waste, pollution from production itself, and the vehicles they use to transport their products. Sure the government could place restrictions on emission levels, but how would they prevent the economic loss that would cause when the companies can no longer produce as they have been? Please someone lend an idea. Thanks!

Eco-friendly plastics?

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008
James asked:

Are there eco-friendly plastics that can compete with the prices of PVC plastic?

We have a product (a lightweight, durable, floating raft) that uses PVC and we want to move in a more green direction. Cost is most important, however. We need a plastic that will test just as well as the PVC but is cheaper.

Obviously it has to be more eco-friendly. Any ideas?
Please confront the price issue. Also, the plastic needs to last a very very long time.

How can powerless, normal people help fight against global warming ?

Monday, May 12th, 2008
BBPerfume asked:

Lately,I have invested a lot of thoughts on global warming issues. I’m equaly concerned, but i just don’t know whether I can give any significant support.

For instance, normal citizens like me cannot afford a hybrid car. I would be indebted to save the world..

Furthermore, i wish I could buy all the eco-friendly products in the shops, but they are also priced higher for average people’s budget.

Is it wrong to think that the bigger responsibility should start with the world leaders and corprorations? We normal citizens buy what we get. i say why can’t govts ban any environmentally hazardous consumation? But wait, I know that this could cripple many economies and plummet unemployment, and it’s not everybody who can produce cost effectively for eco-friendly products. Of course, money plays a role here, and who’s willing to invest more cash in RD.

But until the big powers step up, I’m sorry i can”t be much help. Anybody out there who shares my view point ?
Or if anybody think otherwise, enlighten me…
