Does anyone know anything about the Sabertec Blade? Car experts only please?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009
snorkweezl asked:

So I was reading Lucky magazine, and under their eco gadgets section they list the Sabertec Blade as an eco friendly tailpipe attachment that supposedly reduces air pollution and increases gas mileage. The website (www.bladeyourride.com) wasn’t especially helpful, giving abundant information on the mechanics of an engine, and a catalytic converter, but zero information on the mechanics of the gadget itself. They claim that it 1. Filters particulates out of the exhaust, 2. Decreases the warm-up time for the catalytic converter (apparently by magic as they don’t say how it actually does this) and 3. It “vacuums” the exhaust through the system and out of the car for greater combustion efficiency.
My inclination is that it’s a complete scam, and I would love to write a scathing letter to the editor for not doing her homework and subsequently leading women astray with yet another expensive fuel efficiency gadget that doesn’t work. Trouble is I can’t find any information whatsoever about the product that doesn’t relate back to Sabertec’s ad pitch.

Can this thing possibly work? Please only serious responses from people who know cars

LeeLee asked:

Would it look ok if i carried one of these bags as a purse…they’d double as a bag to put stuff in and helps me be eco-friendly…like when shopping with friends at the mall :)

Eco washing products leave my clothes smelling bad?

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009
Klute asked:

I have switched to using eco friendly products for washing my clothes such as Ecover. These products get the clothes clean enough but because they are not loaded with chemical fragrance the clothes don’t smell so good once dry. They smell a bit like dampness no matter how often I was them. I have tried the ecover fabric softener and the adding essential oils but even though the clothes smell ok when damp once dry they begin to smell again, I notice this smell more on synthetic fabrics also. Please give me any advice on what to do as I don’t want to go back to using chemical brands but my boyfriend is complaining about the smell. What can I do?
I normally wash my clothes at 30 or 40 degrees. My clothes are not heavily soiled.
The thing is that I want to avoid coming into contact with chemicals myself so I would prefer not to use a product like Fabreze.

When you shop for your pets, are you concerned about products being “eco-friendly”?

Lena asked:

Personally, I don’t either. If I had millions of dollars to spend, maybe. lol But, I’m not going to pay 2x the price of something I can get that isn’t “organic.”

which one of these desktops is better?

Saturday, September 19th, 2009
hmmmm………….???? asked:

ok, so long story short the family desktop has almost bit the dust and we dunno when were getting a new one, but it may be eithor this month or next (i have a laptop so its not an emergency). basically the computer will be usedfor this:

music
pictures
word documents
web browsing[mainly]
and it will be left turned on 24/7 [no, im not being very eco-friendly. sorry, but too bad]

anyways, would i was looking on bestbuy.com and comparing computers and i liked these 2 the best:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9370977&type=product&id=1218093382490

so basically my question is: which one do you guys like better? [and if you by chance know of something better and cheaper i'll look at it! :D but you dont have to put down anything extra :)] thanks!

p.s. i dont need a new monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. so thats why those are just cpu’s, and i got a printer free that’ll work with vista packaged with my laptop when i got it

Where can I buy biochar in England?

Friday, September 18th, 2009
Syrocko asked:

I’ve been trying to find out more about this so called biochar, and so far it looks pretty awesome. Not only does it improve soil quality, but it also produces other useful materials as bi-products and most importantly it sequesters atmospheric Co2. Even it’s biggest critics seem to object only on the grounds that if manufactured widely it has the POTENTIAL to be misused, and that it’s not yet 100% conclusively proven to have as many positive benefits as many people think. On the whole it sounds like a pretty amazing product.

So I’d like to buy some, and I’m wondering if any is available yet in England. It sounds like a far more eco-friendly alternative to peat as a means to enrich soil, and maybe I can also encourage my friends to buy it. I live in Cambridge, and would like to buy it as locally as possible. Shipping from abroad is, I dare say, not a good idea given that the process of getting it here may well outweigh any environmental benefits of using it.

Do you know of any way I can buy it, or will I have to be patient?
Also, does anyone know if it would be feasible for me to buy a machine for producing the stuff, either as an individual or perhaps for everyone on my allotment strip to use.
