Eco Friendly Products 101

I live in Montgomery County, MD. I have a couple of working old computers 2GB hard drive, 256 MD RAM etc (obselete now), and bulky monitors. I don’t think anybody would be interested in them anymore and I feel that I cannot donate them. How do I dispose them off in an eco friendly manner (without harming the environment)?

I use bug spray frequently but I feel like I am just putting chemicals all over myself. Its effective and it smells nice in small doses but it hurts your lungs when you breathe it in (not that I inhale it but it is inevitable) and leaves a visible cloud of chemicals. Is there a safer substitute? Also, I use hand sanitizer very often and I am wondering if anyone knows of an eco friendly substitute for that too.

I need an architect who is not too fancy and doesn’t overcharge, but is competent, has contacts, experienced, and good ideas for folks who choose not the mainstream but something beautiful and unique. We want the house built only to sheetrock as we want to do much of the inside/finishing work ourselves. We read Mother Earth Mag and like the back-to-basics things we see in there. We would rather have quality than quantity and love the wood/rock/metal combination with earthy tones. Budget is $200,000 max including permits, etc. Already have well, electricity, and septic on site.

I’m an art major, still in college, and I don’t know much about investing money.
I have about 1000 dollars sitting in the bank, so I am getting interest, but I know that leaving it there won’t pay off too much in the long run. I want to invest it somehow so I can get a payoff either in five years or so, after I’m finished with school and want to buy a house, or even when I’m ready to retire I guess.

As far as I know, the stock market is high-risk but high-pay off. I think investing in an eco-friendly company would be pretty safe and profitable though with current trends.

Do you think it’s a good idea or is there somewhere better I can put my money?

And how do you buy shares? I have no idea.
